Welcome to BellHopp – A New Guest Experience Platform For Hotels

It’s simple. BellHopp is a single mobile app that partners with hotels, allowing them to connect and communicate with their guests. With BellHopp, hotels can share information, expose and upsell their services, and build brand loyalty, while guests get a whole new level of convenience. This blog post will take you through how it all started and some of the thinking around it. If you’re interested in knowing more, feel free to reach out.

While BellHopp was formally founded this year, you could say BellHopp was actually founded in the summer of 2021 on the little Spanish island of Majorca. Staying in a rather attractive 4-star hotel with my family, we found out one morning that breakfast was pushed back an hour via my sister overhearing front desk telling the new arrivals. It got me thinking about the way in which hotels currently share information and communicate with their guests. The current approach is rather old-fashioned, relying on signs around the hotel and word of mouth. Why couldn’t this be a notification I received on my phone I wondered? And if such a channel existed with the hotel, what else could be done? Hotels lack such a direct connection with their guests, with the majority of bookings now coming through online travel agencies. However, if a channel could be created, wouldn’t that be a win for both the hotel and the guest? The hotel could build a relationship with their customer and create brand loyalty and the guest would get a better, more tailored service.

With mobiles being the place consumers see everything, a mobile app makes perfect sense, and a few seconds of research will tell you that this exists and works very well for the biggest chains in the world like Marriott. However, it is a luxury that the smaller chains and independent hotels cannot afford. While together these smaller hotels make up the market, individually they simply do not have the scale to incentivise customers to download and keep their apps long term. Even if they did, the customer journey of finding, booking and managing their stay, would be such a messy affair with the sheer number of platforms to engage with. Not only would they be comparing hotel choices across various hotel apps, but they will be checking online travel agency apps like Booking.com and Expedia. The experience is disjointed and inconsistent.

BellHopp wants to change things. Consider this: every restaurant in your local area creates their own delivery app. Do you download every single app every time you want to try something new? Probably not and that’s why Deliveroo and Just Eat exist. They aggregate the market, creating a single place and standard way to view what’s available. It probably makes more sense for you to download Deliveroo and order your meal through there. Next week, when you want to try something new, you can do it all again through Deliveroo. We want to bring that same model to the hotel stay experience.

There are so many angles we can take this platform. We want to transform hotels into communities, create e-commerce features and content creation opportunities and so much more. We can breathe new life and new ideas into the hotel industry. And it all starts with BellHopp.
